Alex VanBergeijk has been playing drums and percussion for over seventeen years. He became interested in music early on, and at the age of fourteen was given his first drum set.
While attending Franklin Central High School, he studied orchestral percussion techniques as a member of the Franklin Central Percussion Symphony. Under the direction of Dan Fyffe, the group went on to win 4 consecutive Winter Guard International (WGI) First-Place titles in the category of Concert Percussion from 1998 to 2001. After graduating high school he attended Indiana University, playing drum set in rock groups and continuing his classical percussion education as a member of the All-Campus Band.
After graduating from I.U. in 2006, Alex moved back to Indianapolis to play in the worship band at Northview Church and started his teaching career giving lessons at his local music store. Since then, he’s played in a jazz combo with guitarist Doug Swanigan and organist Johnny Dial, toured with Nashville recording artist Corey Cox, and made innovative original music as part a duo with guitarist Mikial Robertson, in addition to countless other performances with some of the city’s finest musicians.
Alex has been playing in “A Piece of Her Heart” since the 2014 production.
